DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

Parallel Shadows started as a small idea about a magical world which centers largely on a Black perspective. Growing up, I was fascinated by sci-fi & fantasy books and movies. But one thing always bothered me: the lack of representation. Rarely did I see characters that looked like me that were not stereotypical tropes or minstrel-like in character. And if they did exist, they were either given meager roles or killed off before the ending credits.

So, when the idea for Parallel Shadows came about, I wrote it, from the perspective of what I had grown to long for as a child. I feel deeply connected to this movie. It ties together a magical world that I have been dreaming about for years. I hope to expand PS into a limited series in the future.
