DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
Gleaming concerns an issue of great personal significance for me, the fact that one of my classmates in college, who is my same age, now faces the incurable disease of leukemia and the certainty of spending his last days in the hospital. Across the globe and unable to spend these trying moments with him, I have come to use my filmmaking as a way to connect back to my home and grapple with the certain loss of a friend. Throughout my work as a filmmaker, I choose topics with a basis in real life and use cinema’s subtle tools of realism to document them in sound and image.
