The 5-1/2 Minute Hallway
“Drink up.”
ABOUT
At his sister’s request, Hiro Yamamoto returns home after several years to confront his abusive, alcoholic father who has taken a turn for the worse. However, when his sister leaves them alone, Hiro and his father descend into a surreal, perhaps supernatural hallway. As Hiro explores the dark corridors, encountering specters of his father, his sister, and his past, he comes to realize that more of his family’s trauma lies within him than he wants to admit.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
I have always been a storyteller, and in my mind there is no better way to comprehend the mystery of human experience than through the medium of film. Storytelling through the image, sound, and performance required of filmmaking can reveal truths about memory and emotion, even when the images, sounds, and performances themselves are disjointed and jarring. 5 1/2 Minute Hallway brings this deeply mysterious and wonderful aspect of storytelling to life through the story of a young man attempting to confront the skeletons hidden in his family’s closet.
