ABOUT
An old woman sees a couple in a fight where the husband beats his wife terribly. After the husband leaves, the woman asks the wife if she needs any help, but the wife responds, “no.” In reaction, the woman curses the abused woman by pouring magic water over her front yard, condemning her to an ever-repeating time loop. When they fight next, her husband has heart trouble and requires his medicine. She tries to save him, only for everything to rewind back, to repeat again.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
I believe that people would love to help those who are in difficult situations, but often, in reality, people in trouble are the only ones who can help themselves. This film is about the people who have to make those decisions to help themselves. Centering on the problem of domestic abuse, Remedy dramatizes the patterns of thinking and action that trap people in unhealthy relationships. Stylistically, it uses fast-paced editing and handheld cinematography to create an unsettling aesthetic that follows the narrative tension.

Xiaoyu Wang is a filmmaker from China who has worked as a storyboard artist, social media editor, and freelance filmmaker. He holds a BA in multimedia and website design from the China Academy of Art and an MFA in filmmaking from the Maryland Institute College of Art. His short films include The Confidant (2015), Ah, Ring (2013), and A Professional Gamer (2016).
