The Negative
Inverted and discolored, but true
ABOUT
Mia is a photographer and a stalker. Recently she had a crush on her new target, Nicole. After finding Nicole’s lost apartment key coincidentally, Mia got used to staying in Nicole’s apartment when she’s not home. When Mia finally got over her self-abasement and decided to confront Nicole and return the key, Nicole returned unexpectedly and Mia was trapped in the closet. Hiding in the closet, Mia witnessed Nicole’s breakdown after nearly being raped and saw her hidden, fragile side. In a long deafening silence, Mia crawled out of the closet and decided to bear the pain with Nicole together.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
The Negative is a short film in which I explore the negative space constructed among people in modern life. We sometimes do not know how to get close to people, especially strangers, to build relationships. Like a film negative, we may find a way to express our world but can do so only in shapes that are inverted and discolored. But the expression is true. So I believe there is always a way to step out of the negative space and find the courage to face the ones we love.
